How to Become an English Blogging Pro to Reach More Audience Header

If you’re looking to start a money-making blog, posting in English is preferable for online content due to its ability to access a global audience and break language barriers.

As a Peruvian-German non-native English speaker myself, I’ve faced struggles in writing correct English. That’s why I want to share my tips and tricks with you today.

In this blog, I will explore the importance of posting in correctly written English. Furthermore, I will share tips for non-native speakers, and also provide insights on various tools, including ChatGPT, Grammarly, and more. Additionally, I’ll discuss how mastering English blogging contributes to your success.

But first, let’s take a little recap of history.

How Did English Become the Global Language?

English has become the international language due to historical factors, like the expansion of the British Empire during the 18th and 19th centuries.

In the 20th century, the economic and cultural prominence of the United States further solidified English as a global language.

Post-World War II, English became the language of international diplomacy, business, science, and technology, fostering global communication.

On the internet, English continues to uphold its position as the primary international language.

Why You Should be Posting in Correctly Written English

While success as a blogger is not dependent on writing in English, many non-English bloggers have achieved significant success. However, opting to use English can be advantageous as it broadens your potential audience and facilitates global reach.

The widespread use of English as the language of communication on the internet enhances the reach and impact of your posts. Therefore, as a non-native English speaker, starting in the online business and blogging space, the ability to articulate thoughts clearly in English opens up a vast market and audience.

Furthermore, non-native English speakers often have unique perspectives and experiences that can be valuable in the blogging industry. By sharing their knowledge and expertise, they can attract a diverse audience and build a loyal following.

Additionally, non-native English speakers can tap into niche markets that may be underserved by native English speakers. This gives them a competitive advantage. An example of a non-native English speaker who achieved global branding success is Kristina Bazan with her blog Kayture

Kristina is a fashion blogger from Belarus, she has become the face of L’Oréal Paris and was chosen by Forbes as one of the 30 under 30 most influential personalities of 2016 in the category of Art & Style.

Don´t let imperfection stop you from starting a blog

Even though I’ll be teaching you how to write correctly in English in this blog post, I want to emphasize that you shouldn’t let a lack of English knowledge stop you from starting a blog in English.

These days, there are many tools available to help you write your content in English, but you’re still going to make mistakes. I make mistakes all the time, and some even go unnoticed. However, that doesn’t stop me from continuing to write blog posts in English.

You may come across people who point out your mistakes, some with honest intentions to help, and others with discouragement. I remember my first post in a Facebook group as an online business owner. It took a lot of courage to post that content, but immediately, someone commented on my mistake in a cruel manner and even sent me a message saying that I shouldn’t write at all if I can’t do it correctly.

The mistake I made was a small spelling mistake and could have happened to anyone, but that person only wanted to discourage me. But that only made my determination to continue even bigger. So, please, don’t let anyone, not even yourself, hold you back from doing what you love and starting imperfectly. You’ll improve your skills along the way.

Connecting with a Global Audience

As I mentioned before, English serves as the lingua franca of the internet and it let´s you connect to people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

The language we use is a powerful tool that shapes perceptions and influences how others perceive us. But when it comes to incorrect written English, it can unfortunately be perceived as unserious or lacking in professionalism. Like I said above don´t let that stop you.

One primary reason for this perception though is the association between clear communication and competence. Correct grammar, proper spelling, and coherent sentence structures are often viewed as indicators of attention to detail and a commitment to effective communication.

In contrast, frequent grammatical errors, misspellings, or poorly constructed sentences may convey a lack of care or diligence, potentially undermining the credibility of the communicator.

That´s why it’s advisable to strive for accuracy and clarity in your use of the english language. This ensures that our messages are not only understood but also reflect a commitment to excellence in communication.

Enhancing Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

An often underestimated aspect of ensuring correctness is the impact it has on search engine rankings.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of optimizing your blog or website to improve its visibility in search engine results (for more information, check out this blog).

While search engines like Google don’t penalize for spelling and grammar issues per se, these elements can indirectly affect your page rank by influencing the user experience.

Consider the perspective of a user who stumbles upon content filled with spelling and grammatical errors; their inclination to exit the website prematurely is high. Properly written content is crucial for user engagement. This aspect directly affects the bounce rate, a metric Google uses to assess a website’s health.

A high bounce rate contributes to a decline in ranking, as it indicates a disconnect between users and content. This relationship is often tied to the quality of the writing, including spelling and grammar.

Matt Cutts, a representative from Google, confirmed that reputable sites tend to have better spelling, establishing a connection between trustworthiness and linguistic accuracy (See Article here).

However, the implications go beyond just the bounce rate. Content affected by mistakes is less likely to be shared, impacting your backlink profile – a critical component of your digital presence. Strong backlinks, in turn, are closely tied to well-written content.

In essence, the idea that spelling and grammar don’t matter for SEO is a myth. Not only is linguistic accuracy important, but it also dispels the misconception that has been circulating in the SEO community.

Techniques to Boost Your Blog’s Visibility

By implementing SEO techniques, you can increase your chances of ranking higher and attracting more organic traffic.

A basic SEO technique is to optimize your blog’s meta tags. Meta tags are snippets of code that provide information about your web page to search engines.

By including relevant keywords in your meta title and description, you can improve your chances of ranking higher in search results. It is also crucial to ensure that your meta tags are written in correct English. Users are more likely to click on them when they are properly crafted.

Meta title and meta description

Another important aspect of SEO is creating high-quality content. Search engines love content that is informative, well-written, and relevant to the user’s search query. While search engines can recognize content created with AI, it’s important to note that using AI to write your blog posts can still be valuable. However, it’s best to use AI as a helpful tool in the content creation process.

Additionally, building backlinks from reputable websites can also improve your blog’s visibility. Backlinks are links from other websites that point back to your blog. Search engines consider backlinks as a vote of confidence, so having high-quality backlinks can help improve your blog’s ranking.

Tips for Non-Native English Speakers

Learning How to Write in English

To improve your writing skills, it’s important to practice regularly. You can also take online courses or hire an editor to help you polish your writing.

What helped me the most in learning how to write English accurately, was reading and watching movies in English. This helps you develop a fluent understanding and improves your writing.

You can also start writing in a journal or try writing stories to further enhance your skills. Adding a personal touch to your writing is also very important. People love stories—they create an emotional connection and make the content more relatable. By sharing personal anecdotes or case studies, you can captivate your readers and keep them coming back for more.

Embrace continuous Learning

Stay committed to improving your English skills.

Use online resources, language exchange platforms, and language learning apps to enhance your vocabulary, grammar, and overall language proficiency.

Use Language Tools

Nowadays, there are so many tools out there, that can catch grammatical errors, enhance sentence structure and receive real-time suggestions for improvement. These tools can act as your virtual language assistants, providing valuable feedback to polish your content. The following tools are all free, and their basic versions are adequate up to a certain point. However, you also have the choice to upgrade if you wish.

Here is a list of my favorite tools:

Grammarly is a powerful writing tool designed to help you improve your writing skills and produce error-free content. It checks for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style mistakes, offering suggestions for improvement as you write.

With its user-friendly interface and real-time feedback, Grammarly helps you write confidently and effectively. It ensures that your messages are clear, concise, and professional.

Hemingway Editor is a writing tool designed to help you craft clear and concise writing.

Named after the renowned writer Ernest Hemingway, this app focuses on simplicity and readability in your writing.

Hemingway Editor highlights complex sentences, passive voice, adverbs, and other elements that can make your writing less effective.

By providing real-time feedback and readability scores, Hemingway Editor helps you streamline your writing and communicate your message with clarity and impact.

ProWritingAid is a comprehensive writing assistant designed to help you refine and polish your writing. It also offers tools to improve your writing style, grammar, and clarity. It goes beyond simple spell-checking and grammar correction, providing insights into readability, style consistency, and sentence structure.

ProWritingAid provides a user-friendly interface and gives detailed feedback, ensuring that your content is engaging, error-free, and impactful.

LanguageTool is a powerful grammar and style checker that helps you write confidently and accurately.

LanguageTool scans your text for grammatical errors, punctuation mistakes, and style inconsistencies. It offers suggestions for corrections and improvements, allowing you to refine your writing and convey your message effectively.

This tool offers an intuitive interface and extensive language support, making it valuable for writers of all levels.

Readable assesses your text for readability metrics, such as reading grade level, sentence length, and word complexity. It offers useful tips and recommendations to help you simplify your writing and make it more accessible to your specific audience.

With its intuitive interface and real-time feedback, Readable empowers you to create engaging and easy-to-understand content that resonates with your readers. However, the tools in the free version are very limited.

Integrating AI Tools Like ChatGPT for Content Creation

Traducing Text into almost perfect English

One of the biggest advantages of using AI as a non-native speaker is its capability to seamlessly translate text from various languages into flawless English. These tools, powered by advanced machine translation algorithms, offer a smooth and accurate way to overcome language barriers.

AI translation models, like the ones using neural networks and deep learning, are good at understanding the small details and meaning of the original languages. They understand aspects like everyday phrases, cultural references, and linguistic subtleties, ensuring precise translations that align well with the context.

A standout benefit of AI translation is its speed and scalability. It efficiently handles large volumes of text with consistent precision. Furthermore, these models continuously learn, adapting to evolving language trends and staying up-to-date with modern expressions.

Despite the impressive capabilities of AI translation, it’s essential to acknowledge the importance of human oversight. Cultural sensitivities, context-specific nuances, and the artistry of language often require the perception and creativity that human translators offer. Therefore, the ideal approach is to use AI as a powerful tool for efficiency and accuracy. However, this should be done alongside human expertise, to ensure nuanced and culturally resonant translations. This collaboration between AI and human translators results in refined and polished English translations from diverse linguistic origins.

Help in Crafting Engaging and Correct Content

So ChatGPT, or other AI tools, can be valuable allies in content creation. Use it to brainstorm ideas, generate creative content, and even refine your writing style.

These tools provide a fresh perspective, helping you create engaging and unique blog posts. However, double-check your texts, as AI tools often make mistakes and can even lie.

I work best with ChatGPT and also one of the language Tools I mentioned above to double-check spelling and grammar.

Overcoming Writer's Block

Non-native English speakers may face occasional writer’s block. AI tools can assist in overcoming these hurdles by offering suggestions, helping you find the right words, and keeping the creative flow intact.

If you’re stuck but have an idea of what you want to write, start by giving ChatGPT or the AI Tool you use a prompt based on that idea.

For example, you can input the prompt: Write a 2-paragraph introduction on the best side hustle ideas for a blog post. ChatGPT will provide you with text that can help generate ideas and get your writing process started.

ChatGPT, however, can often sound weird and inhuman. Here it’s good to use the command “write in a normal voice”.

Final Thoughts on Becoming an English Blogging Pro

In conclusion, non-native English speakers have great potential to succeed with their blogs. By utilizing their unique perspectives and experiences, they can attract a diverse audience and build a loyal following. With the right strategies and techniques, non-native English speakers can overcome language barriers and create interesting content that resonates with readers.

To become an English blogging pro, it’s important to focus on improving your writing skills through lots of practice and courses. Also, take advantage of language tools and AI tools to improve your writing skills and check for correctness.
